Functions & ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an

- Demonstrate support of the Oak Lawn Hometown School District
#123 strategic plan.
- Uphold the established Board of Education policies,
regulations, and administrative procedures
- Facilitate normal development and positive student response to
intervention:
- Serve as the health care expert in the school to meet student
health needs with an understanding of normal growth and development
in children and youth as well as students with special needs.
- Identify deviations from normal development and develop plans
for student care utilizing the nursing process through assessment,
intervention, identification of outcomes and evaluation of
care.
- Provide leadership in promoting health and safety, including a
healthy environment.
- Provide health-related education and guidance to students,
families and staff members.
- Monitor student immunization status and compliance with state
health requirements; submit state reports as required.
- Employ effective infection control through early detection,
monitoring and reporting of contagious illness according to public
health guidelines and district policy.
- Be alert to potential safety hazards in the school environment
and participate in reporting and remedying unsafe conditions.
- Be familiar with and/or contribute to the development of school
safety plans regarding bullying, school violence, and the full
range of emergencies that may occur at school.
- Provide quality health care and intervene in actual and
potential health problems.
- Provide health care for chronic and acute illness, as well as
injuries in the school setting.
- Safely administer and monitor medications that are required
during the school day according to policy and in compliance with
the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
- Perform health care procedures as ordered by students' health
care providers.
- Perform vision and hearing screenings as required.
- Assists in the formation of health office policies and
procedures.
- Maintain an effective health office setting, including accurate
record keeping and maintenance of adequate supplies.
- Use clinical judgment in providing case management services
- Receive and implement medical orders and communicate medical
information to the appropriate staff as needed.
- Develop Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency
Care Plans (ECPs) as needed.
- Provide health care information to the educational teams
developing Special Education plans, such as Individualized
Educational Plans and Section 504 Plans, to the extent allowed by
the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
- Actively collaborate with others to build student and family
capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and
learning.
- Coordinate the linkage between the medical home, family and
school.
- Assist in identifying and accommodating health-related barriers
to learning.
- Provide families with information about available community
resources as needed to improve access to health care.
- Communicate and cooperative with colleagues, students, parents,
and the community as needed to meet professional standards
- Maintain accurate records (students' performance data, clerical
responsibilities, Medicare billing, etc.) for the purpose of
documenting accurate student information, reports, and Medicare
reimbursement
- Track students' attendance and look for trends in communicable
diseases
- Maintain and improve professional competence
- Participate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as
assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the Board
of Education
- Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
