As a Full Stack Developer within the Bunzl Digital and eCom team, you will play a senior, hands-on individual contributor role focused on building, evolving, and scaling Bunzl’s digital, eCommerce, and AI-enabled capabilities. This role is designed for a strong technical builder who leads through implementation, applies AI in practical ways, and helps teams move faster with confidence. Rather than operating as a traditional Solution Architect, this role emphasizes designing through code, pragmatic decision-making, and delivering working solutions. The role follows a hybrid working model, balancing in-office collaboration in our Morton Grove, IL office with flexible remote work based on team and business needs. You will partner closely with leadership and engineering teams in technical direction, execution, and AI adoption. Responsibilities: Design, build, and enhance scalable software solutions across Bunzl’s digital and eCommerce capabilities. Act as a senior hands-on engineer, owning critical components and workflows from design through production. Identify and implement AI-driven use cases, including automation, intelligent workflows, data enrichment, and operational efficiency. Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and delivery speed. Recommend and evaluate modern technology stacks, frameworks, and tools aligned with Bunzl’s long-term digital and AI strategy. Partner with Security, Infrastructure, and Platform teams to support architecture reviews, security approvals, and responsible AI adoption. Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers in a hybrid work environment to deliver business value. Establish and follow engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and automation. Build and maintain integrations with internal systems, third-party platforms, cloud services, and data sources. Work with data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and relational databases (e.g., Postgres) to support analytics, automation, and AI use cases. Identify technical bottlenecks and risks and propose practical, scalable solutions. Wear multiple hats as needed: builder, advisor, reviewer, AI experimenter, and mentor in a small, high-impact team. Support modernization initiatives while effectively working with existing platforms and legacy systems when required. Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience. 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with strong depth across backend, frontend, APIs, and integrations. Proven experience building and supporting production systems in cloud environments (Azure preferred). Strong experience with modern application development and distributed systems. Practical experience applying AI or AI-assisted tools in engineering or platform workflows (formal ML background not required). Experience evaluating and recommending technology stacks in collaboration with engineering, security, and platform teams. Comfort working with security and compliance teams on approvals and production readiness. Experience working with digital or eCommerce platforms is a plus. Ability to work across both modern and legacy systems; AS400 experience is a plus. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical and AI-related decisions clearly to business and leadership. Ability to operate effectively in a small, fast-moving team and adapt as technology evolves. AI Tools & Engineering Environment This role will actively use Bunzl’s preferred AI-enabled engineering tools, including: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code for AI-assisted development Azure AI Foundry (GPT models) for building and integrating AI-driven workflows N8N, Zapier, or similar tools for workflow automation and system integration Experience integrating AI APIs and models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) into applications to improve sales processes, customer experiences, and operational workflows The expectation is to use these tools responsibly and practically, focusing on real productivity gains, automation, and measurable business outcomes.
